This works in tandem with the instrumental thinking most people tend to have in the modern age. In this worldview, what matters are the ends. How you get to that point is superfluous—it doesn't matter if you got lucky or if you actually put the effort. Combine the devaluation/deification of art with this materialistic, efficiency-hungry mindset and you get AI advocates. To them, it doesn't matter if the illustration is souless, if it's cheap to make and means nothing. What matters is that you got a somewhat proficient drawing of something, and for free! Art is about the process. Art is about figuring things, and messing with your plans, getting out of your zone of comfort. It's about loving the sketch but hating the lineart; loving your first draft but hating it after a meticulous re-reading. If our society things all that matters are the ends, then art, a process inherently fueled by the way you make stuff and the fact that you're making stuff in the first place (emphasis on the present continuous), then art simply loses all value. We end up redefining the term, reshaping it into something meaningless.
