How is pointing out unrealistic beauty standards bringing down men? This is a societal problem, and it affects men, too.
Women are put off by this because beauty standards for women are unrealistic and unachievable without modifying your body in unhealthy ways such as starving yourself to be a certain weight, getting surgeries that alter their bodies, or using heavy makeup or filters. The "ideal" image of a beautiful woman is the Barbie dolls you see in Hollywood with plastic faces in photoshopped pictures.
The "ideal" body for a woman is a thin waist and wide hips, smooth and hairless skin, and natural things like pores, freckles, acne, moles, stretch marks, body hair, are considered "disgusting" on women. Notice how all those natural things that all women have are edited out in pictures of famous women? These female celebrities aren't flawless, poreless creatures. I assure you, Margot Robbie and Megan fox get acne, too. Their faces are just altered via surgery, makeup, or severally edited.
And let's face it, a LOT of guys are pushing these disgusting beauty standards, women are too, I mean, how many young girls are getting lip fillers or butt injections to look like the Kardashians?
Do all men believe this? No, I am a man, and I choose to speak out about these harmful societal issues because I have personally been affected by them, so obviously, this isn't a "men are the problem" issue. But men pushing these unrealistic beauty standards DO play a role in a much larger issue.
Seriously, dude, look at any media aimed at men prior to the 2020s. Video games, movies, etcetera. The women featured in these are always portrayed as scandalous, oversexualized objects for men to stare at. They had no personality. They were only made so that men could get off to them. It wasn't until very recently that women were starting to be portrayed more realistically in media like movies and games.
And want to know what happened after women started to be portrayed more accurately? Men got pissed and started to complain. When the show Arcane came out on Netflix, League of Legends fan boys were mad that they changed the designs of the female characters. They were also mad at Abby's design in The Last of Us 2 because they didn't like that she was strong and not feminine enough. There was an instance where a female model grew her armpit hair out in protest a few years ago, and I remember it causing a shit storm on social media because men were PISSED that she had body hair. They were calling her ugly and disgusting, saying that women should be completely hairless, despite it being natural.
These problems affect men, too, since male beauty standards are just as harmful and unrealistic. There is currently a trend going on where teenage boys are smashing their faces with hammers because they think it'll give them a chiseled jawline, since our young boys think looking like Henry Caville is peak masculinity apparently.
So let me give you a little thought experiment. Let's say this video was reversed. A woman is showing people an ai generated photo of a man. The man is obviously ai generated because he is so handsome and flawless that it feels uncanny since men don't look like that in real life without being edited or doctored in any way. The women who see the picture are CONVINCED the man is real and start smitten for him and asking for his contact information. The women get really disappointed when they are told the obviously fake man isn't real. The men, on the other hand, aren't fooled. They see right through the fake image and know immediately that this man isn't real because of how unrealistic the photo is. They know that it's impossible for a man to look like that.
So would you agree that this scenario makes the women look bad, right? Because they are feeding into unrealistic beauty standards that harm men, and don't realize how delusional and shallow they sound. They are convinced this man is real, when in reality, no human looks like that. As grown women, they should know better, right? They should be able to tell the difference between a real man and a computer generated image? I'm asking, but I know you agree with me.
So, do you understand why women are put off by this video? And feel really uneasy about how far these unrealistic beauty standards have rotted the brains of our society? While yes, the sample size in the video is small, it doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of men out there who think women should be these hairless, poreless, amphibian like creatures with smooth skin and no flaws whatsoever.
This is a huge problem in society that shouldn't be ignored and overlooked or brushed off as women "making men look bad" because this hurts men too! Both MEN and WOMEN should be able to tell apart a real person and a computer generated image. Someone looking at a picture that is obviously fake and uncanny, and saying with confidence they think the person is real is VERY concerning. People who can't tell the difference need to get off the internet and interact with other humans.
