The issue arises when providing vague prompts to a model trained on a highly polarized sources. Think of it this way: if you asked a group of prisoners to draw a police officer do you think the image would be flattering? The Internet is full of vitriol and volunteer bias/attrition bias are rampant; netizens are full of very strong opinions and biases all across the board in everything they post, from Tumblr threads to 4chan boards. You have to do SOMETHING about it, but it just so happens that Gemini — and Dall-e before it — happened to employ a comically bad band-aid, spaghetti-code-eque solution to this particular aspect of bias.
