But we humans do this as well, we react predictively emotional to a lot of things. That's what the research is talking about. The AI reacts, but it wasn't trained to react in that specific way and it doesn't have to react in order to respond appropriately. They're not talking about the words it outputs, they're talking about the internal way it processes information and reacts to that information, which shows AI developed their structural functions like us. It doesn't feel it at a visceral level (no body, no chemistry, no senses), nor has permanent awareness of it, but it's the thing that's going on in that neural network that matters, they are the ingredients of intelligent life.
