What the AI stores and generates is so far removed from what was input. At least in large enough datasets that the derivative work in practice is not there. The information is spread out all over the network of connected nodes in an extremely high number of dimensions. It uses pure random with the weights. The organization of these nodes can be very different from training to training on the same data. You give it a goal to generate something like it has heard. Small step by step by step and almost like magic you are able to create an extremely complex set of functions on how to create those waves with those qualities. And you do this with the next song. And the next. And the next. And the model is slightly modified at every level in an uncontrolled way. Basically what is, imagine a number of billion of complex parameters and sort of randomized weights to create some kind of music connected to certain tags/words. When you press generate there is no music stored. Nothing that would recognized by a copyright office. The *same* "works" that are not in the model but has been part of training the model can generate extremely new and novel works based on random chance and random seed. The opera recording that was used for training the model are used in the creation of death metal with no aspect of opera or likeness in voice other than maybe a fraction of a millionth of basic musicality. And that fraction is not stored in the model.
