I work in IT and can absolutely confirm this is the case. People singing praises of AI art basically have only two arguments, "it's cheaper than paying the artist!" and "you don't need to bother with an artist who's being a pain." I once asked a very pro-AI coworker if he realizes that he's basically cheering a slow death to culture (how is AI going to innovate in art? how is it going to create new styles or movements? it's not, without new human input it will just recycle the same garbage forever), and his response was basically "well yes that's all true, but that's the future anyway so what, at least it's convenient."
There's something deeply dystopian about all this IMO.
