And honestly it's not that far from what some people genuinely believe, that we're just the biological scaffolding that was necessary to eventually produce silicon intelligence. Elon Musk and others have floated the idea that humans might just be the universe's way of creating AI. Whether that's profound or terrifying probably depends on the day.
