That may well be the case, but in fairness, both sides of the "AI" debate seem pretty "culty" and I'd argue that the various groups in the pro-AI camp seem quite a bit more cult-ish with charismatic powerful leaders who seem to act as though they have a divine mandate to make decisions which will impact all of humanity and who demand secrecy from their acolytes and who cannot be questioned or constrained.
