Our computers, aside from having an infinite amount of memory, are turing complete. It hasn't been demonstrated, nor is there anything to indicate mathematically, that something more powerful (defined as capable of computing something that cannot be computed by a turing machine), than a turing machine can be emulated via different hardware. It is also worth noting that the human brain also cannot possibly have infinite memory, as it occupies a finite space.
I don't see any reason why a computer could not emulate a human brain's functions. LLMs, of course, don't emulate human brain functions in their entirety. There are some similarities, however. The mathematical principle behind AI could be similar to how the connections of neurons in the brain calculate things. It is also similar in how both are heuristic systems. Both the human brain and AI models (not just LLMs) give approximate answers.
I'm not saying LLMs are contious, what I am saying is that there is no reason to believe computers can't emulate a human brain, and while there is no definite proof there is plenty of reason to believe that they can. My prediction, as someone who has formal education in computational theory, is that we already have the technology to create a truely sentient AI, but we just haven't found the correct "configuration" to truely achieve it.
