*ENGINEER HERE* - I love how so many of the comments on this page are being realistic. I know one of these people is TOTALLTY FULL OF SHIT when they make a ridiculous statement like _"Its going to be here in a few years."_ The list of technologies that people have made these sorts of claims for is long but it includes nuclear fusion, flying cars, colonies on the Moon and Mars to name a few. My degree is in aerospace and some of the claims about a Moon base and Mars colony are so far fetched its absurd. Is it possible? YES, but we've never developed most of a very long list of technologies. AI is no different, but most people have NO IDEA what it is. The first fact of AI is that it DOES NOT THINK. It calculates probabilities like what's the possible next word a person might type. One of the amazing things is that when you ask ChatGPT or any of the other large language models what something as simple as "1 + 1 =?" it does not do the calculation. Based on its training data it estimates that the answer is 2 based on the probability based on how many times its seen 1+1=2. General AI is a techno fantasy for the simple reason NOBODY actually knows what thinking actually is. We all do it (most of the time) and think we know what think is BUT AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL in our brains we have no idea WTF is happening or how it actually works. Like so many others I see yapping on about what AI will do in the next few years I DOUBT this clown has ever written a line of code in his life and has NO IDEA how any of the technology works. Economists need to do the world favor and simply SHUT UP.
