@thewannabecritic7490 That is not what I said at all, though. I love finding new art pieces to enjoy.
I almost never knowingly consume art that is made entirely with AI. Even with all my curiosity and interest in how this technology works, I am a big believer in the effects of what I like to call the "aura." The "aura" is everything about an art piece that is not the art piece itself (history, authorship, sociopolitical context, etc). We can't separate the art from its cultural, historical, sociopolitical, etc context, yet AI art either lacks "aura" entirely, or has a "negative" sort of "aura" (informed by negative opinions surrounding AI art) that is unappealing to many, including me. But not everyone shares this opinion, and even I have found some AI art pieces (mostly music and text actually, not so much visual art) that were very appealing to my aesthetic sensibilities. Yes, they may have been slop; yes, they may have been unethically produced; yes, they lacked "aura," and they mostly lacked intent and "soul." But they were appealing to me on some level. Yes, sometimes I may listen to a track generated by Udio, and go "wow, that was nice," or read a poem by ChatGPT and go "hmmm, that was interesting actually." But mostly I don't, because I need more than just pure, surface-level aesthetic enjoyment from my art. Please, if anything, don't missinterpret this: I NORMALLY DON'T LIKE AI-GENERATED ART, EXCEPT IN RARE CASES WHERE I DO.
Now, to be fair, the type of AI art I talked about in my previous comment was co-authored, AI-assisted art rather than AI-generated art. The difference is the amount of human involvement present. Even if you are so firmly opposed to AI-generated art that you think it is practically the spawn of demons, I am not sure whether you can actually say the same for AI-assisted art, at least in a philosophical sense. I can say something about it regardless: AI-assisted art is still ousourcing the skills and services of professional artists to AI, arguably even more than purely AI-generated art (because people using Stable Diffusion wouldn't normally hire an artist, but people using Stable Diffusion to make backgrounds for their comics would had SD not been a thing), so I may dislike it because it steals opportunities from me. All the worse if it can replicate my particular style, which my clients hire me for. But that is an argument focused on my preservation as a human being rather than any concrete philosophical view. Please don't conflate the two; it doesn't have to be wrong, it's just different. That is what I was talking about in my previous text; that AI can help indie artists with their indie projects, but also takes away gig opportunities from them.
Anyway, that is all for now. I love talking about this stuff, so I went overboard again. Please make sure to critique what I am saying, though, because I don't have to be right, I just think I am right now (basically, I am open to changing my mind).
