Yeah as a side note, fanart would absolutely count as a copyright violation in almost any jurisdiction. But copyright is not automatically prosecuted, and 99% of artists, especially commercially, know full well that it is an excellent advertisement, so they allow it as a deliberate choice. If for whatever reason someone wanted to prevent you from making fanart, it would be fully in their rights to do that.
