That's because all you think of when you hear ai art are people making cool looking pictures to check out what ai can do.
You're judging the possibilities of a tool by lowest possible use. It's like saying there is no artistry in photography because you're only judging a collection of pictures students took on a night out drinking. Of course you won't find art there.
Right now it's still very much in early development so it has a lot of issues. But imagine what this could mean. Not everyone can make a piece from nothing, that's a privilege that is the biggest requirement for being an artist. Actually getting your vision or feelings into the world by starting with a blank slate.
Ai art means active feedback. You instead start with a base generation from where you can edit. Either the prompt, or regenerating parts, changing settings and adding details. Or just straight up bringing it into another program and work on it. This will open up artistic expression
