1) That's true. a lot of people got let go from, lets say a Walmart or CVS (big dept. stores). Though, most of those stores didn't replace their employees completely, as there are other jobs/tasks within a grocery/retail store that require actual human bodies. It's just a fraction of jobs lost, but still a terrible outcome at the end of the day. It's different argument completely when it's intellectual property being blatantly snatched without consent, like this dude in the video.
2) Using reference for help to make an end product is always allowed. imo it's just what degree is being copied and how we define these end products. it's all about taste and your own discretion i guess. If somebody copies a photograph 1to1 and paints it on a canvas, calls it an original art piece, then their statement calling it so is not something i can really respect, personally. That is just practice or a study, which is totally fine but call it for what it is. This artist, Sam, does rely heavily on reference and actual people as subject matter but he does have a particular style and technique to his paintings that make up his artistic identity. I wouldn't say his digital art is the most commendable pieces of work but his drawing and design skills are very prominent and recognizably his own. The unethical part is ai software is ripping off peoples work completely and nobody can be held accountable. Artistic cues, signature palettes, drawing/painting styles and techniques all being copied. And so as a result, i think in the future artists work is going to be less available and more safeguarded for public viewing because it's so easily taken by ai software like mid journey, lensa, etc. which is a bad thing for people who appreciate art but a good thing for people who need to use it commercially.
3) pretty irrelevant example. chess is a game you enjoy facing another opponent. Like a sport, the more close a match it is the more fun and entertaining it is, so just don't face off against a computer i guess lol, and if you're a competitive chess player then there's no shame in losing to a super computer. Even Einstein couldn't out do a modern day calculator.
most people will tell you that at the end of the day ai art is here now and it's helping, which is 100% facts. I just hope that there is a way that artists can also have some protection without hiding all their work.
Music will be next to be targeted though, I wonder how musicians and regular people will react when their shit get's bitten off of too?
