That’s already been happening, as many news reports have reflected. Quite a few companies have replaced customer service departments with chatbots, even though they’re not yet really functional. This recently happened to the Social Security Administration phone lines, thanks to DOGE, as reported on MSNBC.
Publicly available AI already is being used to write scientific journal articles and legal briefs, with many reported cases reflecting that the systems make up journal articles and legal cases, without the purported authors noticing. Last week the US Dept of HHS released a “Make America Healthy Again” report that showed signs of being composed by AI and not reviewed by anyone with medical expertise. Seven of the cited sources apparently don’t exist.
