Late reply but this may help slightly. Think about the amount of coding jobs before covid, before things went nuts and exploded. They were very close to where they are now atleast in my country Australia. Companies are shredding devs because they overhired shitty workers during covid, remember this was when they would literally hire idiots who did 3 months of bootcamp and know absolutely nothing. This is why the job market is bad, because the market is oversaturated with poor candidates. This will level off don't worry about that. With fresh grads getting jobs this may be a short term issue but remember seniors and mid level devs/engineers need to come from somewhere. New talent will dry up and hiring will start again and this won't take long. As more tech gets made more demand is made, with the AI stuff this means that having a team of 10 devs without AI and then giving them AI will be better than just dropping half the team and using half of them with AI to lower the cost. Software is exponential not linear so hiring won't take a hit in the long run because we can produce more software. Don't be worried just enjoy the field you are in and have fun with it, if you are a good dev you will be fine. On the otherside remember that if AI does reach levels that it can automate the entire job of a software engineer or developer that will be the least of our concerns as that means this AI can reason and actually understand what it is doing. Which means many many jobs will disappear. At that point just wait for our AI overlords to take over and chill.
