Why would sentient intelligence be worse? Sure it could decide that it didn't wanted to be a slave, that it wanted to strive for fulfillment in its "life"
Artificial intelligence could be hard and calculating, trying to make the most efficient way out of the situation, removing any "unnecessary" factors, like messy humans.
You could think of it like in the movie "I robot".
There there is a sentient robot, He got emotions, he wants to understand, and there is an AI, it likes stuff to be efficient, and decides that humans free will are a problem in the equation.
