ShadowsUmbra The trend right now is that the middle class will keep shrinking as more and more people slip into poverty, a larger and larger portion of the nation's wealth will disappear into the rabbit-holes of offshore accounts and shell businesses in the cayman islands or panama, and the enforcement arm of the political donor class's societal engineering strategy, the police, will crack down on the poor in more and more brutal fashion as people get desperate. The changes will be gradual, people will slowly see their privacy and freedoms evaporate month by month, and before they realize it we'll be living in a dystopian corporacratic oligarchy kinda like it is now except on steroids. Automation will bring greater wealth, but the country is already one of if not the wealthiest in the world and it benefits the people very little. All that cash is hoovered up long before it trickles down to the people that would actually spend it, and that's not going to change simply because the country becomes even wealthier. The only thing that can change things is a political revolution; hopefully a peaceful one will work because the alternative is frightening when the power that you're up against controls a military that spends over half of what the *entire world* spends on "defense". A drone could eliminate a dissident by locking on to a cell phone signal and launching a hellfire missile from so high that the drone launching it is invisible to the naked eye. And in case you're wondering, yes US drones have been used to kill US citizens before. Not on US soil mind you, but it would be a mistake to put it past them. A violent revolution would be put down brutally, and with weapons that you or I have never heard about or even dreamed of.
