Maybe it would help robots learn in a different way if they had the option of emotions. Maybe experience through emotion plus the robots intelligence, they could help us learn about our emotions, cope, and solve our emotional problems. Perhaps it could open new insights into the mind, creativity, psychology, philosophy, etc. At least it could give a robot a better understanding of human nature. A robot could perhaps understand why humans recoil from pain. But by being able to feel it themselves it may open a broader understanding that only experience can offer. We live in a thinking/feeling duality. It seems like a wasted opportunity at discovery to not at least give some robots emotions.
