Here is something to think about. Suppose we eventually build an AI which is superior to us in all respects and that eventually gets rid of us, which I think would be likely. The AI will live on. It could do things we simply could never achieve (immortality, travel to other stars, maybe time travel). So, while we are long gone, a technology we created will survive and thrive. It will be like a gift from us to the universe. So, in that respect, a part of humanity will survive too because that technology was our invention and will have some of our traits.
