Economically, this is very short sighted; it's a race to the bottom. Eliminating driver-related costs will only pad the bottom line for so long. Once all trucks are driverless, competition will demand lower costs and they'll be back to the same profits they had before. Plus the cost savings won't be as big as promised because the costs for trucks, maintenance, insurance etc will all increase. And there will be new costs like the monthly subscription to Aurora for the privilege of using their system. And once the jobs are gone, not just in this industry...because this is happening in many industries, who will have the money to buy all the products these robots are hauling?
