AI makes learning easier, but at what cost? Charlie Gedeon highlights how students may offload their thinking to machines, and in my book Beyond the Automation Abyss I describe this as agency atrophy. I now believe the true risk lies in letting the pursuit of efficiency overshadow the messy process of discovery. Most are worrying about AI’s errors or hallucinations. Education should be about curiosity and resilience, and if AI takes over the work of thinking, we lose what makes learning deeply human.
