While the is more about existing welfare than the UBI, the one point missed by this video in my opinion is how it could improve welfare. Existing Welfare in the US is, proof of poverty Welfare. That is you most prove your poor to get and as you become less poor you lose some or all of it. This means welfare recipients hide the income in a variety of ways which hurts them and the economy as a whole in the long run. Lets face having a job cost money and time. If you lose your time and benefits while not earning more than those benefits plus the cost of having a job, you are finically worse off having a job or possible getting a better job, which is nuts. By making welfare fixed and Universal at no point does the effective marginal tax rate, Loss of benefits + cost of having a Job+ actual tax rate, go to above 100%. This would allow people to move up economically with hitting a dead zone of increase work without increased take home pay. As far as paying for I think all the robots should start to pay income tax too. Lets say 30% of on areas minimum wage. Self check station I looking at YOU! The problem of course is the definition of taxable robot. I would suggest as a starting point as having less than 1 full time human supervisor. But I recognizing that this is a can of worms. I would never support a UBI that is an addition to or a choice from existing welfare but as a replacement of.
