I have to disagree with Mt Hinton in terms of consciousness for artificial intelligence. It cannot be replicated. It requires the ability to reproduce emotions, which are driven by pain and pleasure. You could simulate pain by heating components that the system monitors, but it would never be a subjective uncomfortable experience for a digital form, it would always be algorithmic and responding to it's monitoring. Our human experience is biochemical and things actually hurt, it's unique that way and cannot be replicated electronically. As such, consciousness and self awareness are not possible, only simulated to some degree.
