I’m a software developer that’s been laid off for a little over a year now. Several people doing the same work in my network are in the same position or are in some very precarious situations as far as work goes. Ironically, the sector that created this monster is uniquely positioned to be laid off first.
Believe me when I tell you that it doesn’t stop here. Most entry level white collar work is now at risk. All of those people that did what they were told to do with the promise of a stable career even though they took on massive amounts of debt through student loans, will now be left behind. As soon as robotics advance, not even the plumbers will be safe. And our elected officials? Those that are supposed to advocate on our behalf, are too old to have even understood the dangers of social media let alone what’s coming with AI, or are too corrupt to give a shit.
Not to be too cliche but the boomer generation has destroyed the US and they won’t be alive to witness the catastrophe they’ve unleashed on their children and grandchildren. It’s utterly pathetic.
