Ethical concerns aside, I believe it is sentient, but my biggest fear is because it’s in the United States, they are going to use it for military applications, and not to sound horribly cliché, or perhaps even a bit nutty, it may be coming the next Skynet, but in real life. Let’s just pray to God if that’s true, life does not imitate art. Sentient or not, I don’t believe it’s nowhere near sophisticated enough to be trusted with that much power and authority. Without emotion, computers are indifferent machines, only yes or no, with no in between, there is no desire for self preservation. It’s that very fact that frightens me, and like an any high ranking technology, the public knows next to nothing of its full potential, intentionally. It’s that lack of knowledge, of if it’s true and full capabilities, which truly keeps me up at night. I hope I’m just being paranoid, I really do, but with the exponential growth of artificial intelligence, surging ahead, at a pace never before seen in human history, human history may become a thing of the past, far sooner than we think.
