Food for thought: remember that the worst case scenario to change a semi-autonomous weapon system to a LAWS can be thought of as trying to jailbreak/exploit the device to operate under an autonomous mode.
Which is to say, even if you didn't build in an intentional backdoor, you can employ literal state of the art methods of protection, encryption and bypass prevention meant to protect economies in the scales of billions of dollars, and some acne faced university student who just failed calc 2 will figure out this one weird trick with a paperclip right next to the power button that makes all the security measures go away.
