I genuinely want to have a discussion on this, because I’m trying to understand the other perspective (or if we actually agree but lose the nuance online). I’m a software engineer who builds ML/AI models (not generative ones). I know how they work on a deep level, and from experience I’ve seen their limits. They don’t have thought processes, and while they can produce locally coherent outputs (like a decent paragraph), they usually fall apart at larger scale — programs don’t function, plans don’t hold together, etc. I also don’t enjoy using them for creative work; it feels “lifeless,” and I value the method as much as the outcome. So I get the arguments about quality and authenticity. That said, I don’t fully understand the pushback against AI art just because it’s AI. Art is about expression, and generative tools can be a medium for that. It’s not the same as hand-drawn, painted, sculpted, photographed, or composed works — it’s its own category. But that doesn’t make it less valid. The greatest artists throughout history have embraced new mediums, and this feels like one more.
