As an graphic designer (literally a HND college student), I'm all for AI. Is it stealing without permission? Yes. Is it obvious when an artwork is AI generated? Also yes. Are the images pretty? Also yes. I use AI, the main two being Novel AI and MidJourney. I find it absolutely fascinating to seen how different the same prompt can be. You put in a prompt and it generates as many different versions as you want, and most of the time they're all so different. But think of it this way. Collage is also stealing. Because you re taking work that does not belong to you, and you're cutting it up, and you're putting it together in a way that's unique and creative. It's still your work of art, but nothing you've used is yours, so how is it your art? AI does essentially the same thing. It takes work that doesn't belong to it. And it uses it to create a new image that fits your prompt. It's not yours, it's not the AIs, but it's still art. Do I think AI art is bad? No, I see it as a tool to be used to help those who aren't artists. Like Piccrew. Do I think those who call themselves artists just because they can use an AI are bad? Yes. You aren't an artist if you're letting a computer take over. You decide what to make, not the computer. That's what an artist, a designer, and most creative jobs are. It's a humans decision that makes art art, not a computers.
