He is using a tool, and writing a good prompt is half of what it takes to get a good specific image, sure. He's got half a point there. But saying it's in the same league as natural or even digital art is foolish, and attempting to step into legal grounds over it at this stage will be messy. Even digital art created by humans still has a perceived lower status to hand-drawn and hand-painted pieces. Having a print is it's own class compared to an original piece, ect. This isn't legal advice; In my opinion he's half right but a fool or making his case before the overton window shifts. He can't own the image but he might be able to own the prompt. That's not even getting into the people reveling in hate I've seen over AI. I can't wait to be called names for noticing people have a little too much fun belittling AI, and that a lot of it comes from fear. Some people just want an enemy to hate so the world feels right. Our ape heritage has much to answer for.
