BBC doesn't seem to understand what "bad science" means. This is bad use of science. This is good science, in the sense that it works, which is being used by bad or ignorant people driving out good content.
These types of things long preceded AI. There was, for example, Velikovsky's bad science in "Worlds in Collision" which led to the diffusion of further bad content. I remember in high school asking a geology teacher about it in the 60s. Fortunately he was able to explain the nonsense to me.
