I think alot of developers are making claims about what they want to be true, instead of facing what is actually happening. Yeah AI is a tool in your toolbox, and its not about writing code, its about problem solving. But if that were completely true, then why are Junior devs jobless? They learn all about problem solving in college, so why cant they contribute? AI innovations are moving fast. Maybe this year we have Gen AI and Agentic AI. What will there be next year? Quantum Computers? Sentient AI? Its an upgrade today, but tomorrow, or the day after, we _will_ be replaced. Saying that "real developers can never be replaced" is wishful thinking. They solved the "syntax" problem. The next step is to solve the "problem solving" problem, and expanding the AI context window. Companies focus on short term gains. They may hire you back this quarter, but disruptions due to AI innovations will make them change direction fast. The business people spend all day thinking of ways to cut costs. I think they have demonstrated that they are willing and able to get rid of staff if it makes shareholders of the company stock happy, and they think it will boost profits for their quarterly report.
