Dr. Yampolskiy's lucid explanation of what's going on with artificial intelligence is appreciated, but he shares with Ray Kurzweil the foolish notion that we ought to wish to live forever. Solving the problem of keeping our bodies alive is the easy part. The human psyche did not evolve to live for a thousand years, nor is it reasonable to suppose that our institutions or relationships could function for that long. He also dismisses the healthy human impulse to procreate and raise children who will eventually take our place. That level of failure to understand the natural human condition is sad and, frankly, disturbing.
