People have floated the idea of a Universal Basic Income. This is paid to everyone equally so that you don't *have* to work. The thing is, that automation and AI will probably make a lot of people unemployed in the next 30 years or so. So they will just sit on their playstation and collect UBI, right? Who is paying the bill? The rich, who caused this, won't. They've already established that since Reagan and Thatcher. Taxing those who can most afford it is a subject that mysteriously never comes up in conversations. Who are the demons of the economy? Those on benefits!
So, you will have a population that is out of work, funded entirely by a slowly shrinking pool of employed people in a race to the bottom. Meanwhile, the opulent class just get richer and richer and pay nothing towards society.
