4:18 In my experience, they actually make crashes *more* likely to happen because the car does things you aren't expecting it to do, such as slamming on the breaks or not letting you change lanes.
One time in my mother's Mazda, we were coming to a stop behind traffic at a red light when the brakes suddenly applied themselves fully, bringing us to a screeching stop and the person behind us had to swerve out of the lane or they would have rear ended us at 35mph. The car in front of us was well ahead of us with plenty of room for us ro safely come to a stop behind them, so I have no idea what it detected to make it do that.
I wasn't with her when it's done it, but she's said it even happened to her on the freeway at like 70mph. Thank God nobody was tailgating her and nothing happened, but it's got to be terrifying to have the brakes suddenly bring you to a stop for seemingly no reason on the freeway. Anytime I have to drive her car, I turn off every automatic safety feature that I can. (obviously not abs and whatnot, you know what I mean)
