The thing I find ridiculous about the idea that being anti-ai is somehow an ableist stance is the fact that many artists are disabled and AI is trained by stealing from those many disabled artists' works. Depending on how your disability manifests, how it affects you and the severity at which it manifests having a job can be almost impossible. Most jobs consider disabled people a liability and actively avoid hiring them because they don't want to front the costs of having to accommodate the same employees breaking back to give them their money. And if you were like me and were constantly in and of the hospital, most companies don't want an employee whose presence can't be guaranteed. And sometimes your disability can make it so that you literally can't work a job from labor to your run-of-the-mill office job.
Which then means the only option left is relying on disability. However not only is disability challenging to secure but it also pays shit and manages to be incredibly difficult to live off of. In fact, most people on disability usually either have to rely on family (spouse, sibling, child, parent, etc.) or work anyway. And when working is not an option, a lot of people really don't want their option to be barely living or being completely dependent on another person. Especially with how much power that gives someone to abuse you.
But with art many disabled people who could not make a sustainable living actually can. In fact, I find that creative industries (such as animation and art) tend to be the most accessible, even under our current capitalistic hellscape. I'd say considering the capitalistic nature of AI, it is more ableist than any "Luddite" could be. And I honestly see the progression of gen AI tech resulting in art as a whole becoming more inaccessible than it would be if it didn't exist. And while I could imagine a world where AI could be "ethical" I feel like the current state of our society makes it so that it can never be used ethically. Everything from its use to what I suspect was the purpose of its creation had not artists, or even really consumers in mind but immediate profit. Which is what the technology's appeal is. Instant gratification. The idea of being able to benefit immediately, regardless of the costs or consequences that come of it.
