So the moral of the story is to use AI art to start with until you get popular enough, then transition to commissioning human art (half joking).
Personally I feel like creating art is about the decisions the artist made while making it. So yeah if you write the story but generate the art you’re removing some but not all of your control over the decision making. In that case I feel like there’s a lot of room for good artists to make decisions during the ai generation process - maybe you pause the generation half way and paint over it, or do some programmatic or mathematical manipulations somewhere along the way. So yeah it seems to me like it has less room for expression in the sense that the “quality” floor is higher if you just want to generate something and don’t care what you make, but that doesn’t preclude people from making important decisions if they wanted to.
The ethics of data sourcing is a different issue of course.
