Couldn't? What are you talking about? There are already AI aps that can make entire working nice web page I'm seconds with few prompts. There are many internal AI used by big companies trained on their own cider so that AI can replace 70% of devs.
And remember AI is still getting better and better. In the end only best of the best will remain and all the juniors and mids will get replaced.
Friend got fired kast year from one of largest dev companies in my country, they replaced 45% of people with AI. After few months of struggle that decision paid off. Remaining people work hard in fear of layoffs and they no longer ask for rises and AI actually does the job of fired people well (they use own model). But from what he heard from remaining people goal is to fire most humans in the feature as cost of hiring humans in my country is much higher then running mid sized data center.
