Music has the same protection as art, it's just historically to make and distribute music, you have usually used labels and other copyright organizations that somehow manage the licenses and etc.
The frustration of the artist is understandable, but the question here is about time. Even if AI companies will use fully legal data sets (it exists and will more), it just keeps you a few years and these AI's will be the same good as now. Yes, current models can't be explored properly (make experiments with feedback), but it's just a temporal limitation. You must just be ready to lose your job, it's better advice (my job also trying to be replaced by AI).
