I predicted that Deepfake was going to go out of control like this. It was fucking obvious, that being said people talking about consent laws don't really know about them. On technicality, deepfakers can do this and they're allowed to as is currently done with drawings and fanfiction. They're not real photos and they clearly don't exist, hell make porn out of me I'll probably laugh...but people need to be aware that this isn't a consent issue, and classifying it as such will have overreaching consequences that'll extend to existing laws about existing photography as well as any derivative works. For example, memes could be significantly affected. 2D fanart as well, heck even fanfiction, these are just some examples. When you post something on the internet, you should be prepared for people with less then holy intentions to come and use it. Consent or not, its still going to be edited and if you have a real problem with it, just don't post pictures on the internet, simple. Its like walking with skimpy clothes or a loaded wallet into a dirty crime ridden ghetto, sure laws should exist against crimes within all areas but its also a common sense argument to know which areas the law doesn't commonly extend to and areas where they do, so just don't enter the dirty ghetto with a loaded wallet or skimpy clothes and expect to be protected. But I understand the situation is so much more complex than that, and I disavow usage of deepfake from an ethical and moral level. The porn side of its consequences are small, and to be honest probably someones used you as wank material in their own minds, though OF creators should not be worried about this considering the shite they usually post. Its not that someone seeing you in a sexual light is bad, and treating this as a problem is like basically trying to outlaw human nature, its that this technology can make you do things you never even did, and have people experience the supposed consequences of doing so. Obviously, parodies are easily distinguishable but this isn't. This essentially renders any video footage or audio recording unreliable, and misleading. This can lead to a new wave of misinformation, and this is coming from someone who rolls his eyes when the term "misinformation" is used. This can legitimately fool people to fight and die in response to false footage. This can have public figures say the dumbest shit, and while it would be extremely funny for a politician to say something obscene it wouldn't be great getting fucking drafted or nuked for it. I do recognize the possibility of reviving old movie stars and celebrities, effectively immortalizing them, and it would be so cool having their voice on hand when reading text or something, but its a very very VERY cursed technology. For it to be accepted, critical thought would have to be at an all time high to distinguish and doubt the veracity of the footage at hand, it must be specifically acknowledged as deepfake, has an existing countermeasure, and is basically illegal to use in contexts that may criminally implicate or physically harm the person in question.
