Given the type of economic system we live in, I think Ai art is going to have long standing negative effects going forward, not just for artists, but for culture creation in general. Least to say, I like the potential of Ai art, but as an artist I'm not optimistic about its implementation.
While I appreciate arguments for Ai art generation being used as a tool for inspiration, I also think that it is a very naive, or worse, dishonest argument. Undoubtably this technology will mostly be used by non-artists and corperations that have no qualms exploiting other artist's work, as has always been the case since the arts have been considered a commodity.
We already have an online culture that largely incentivizes art theft outside of tightly nit online art communities, so it wouldn't be too difficult to assume that people will maliciously use other people's art in datasets without the artist's permission.
This is going to sound over-dramatic, bear with me. From my perspective, Ai art enthusiasts are asking us to allow the automation of the human soul.
