ok, potentially hot take here, but AI isn't the issue, nor is it gaining more individually the problem. What we need to do NOW is designate the line between sentience and mimicry. Currently, we're still toeing the line where AI is still technically just mimicking people, but after all, isn't that already just what humans do? From birth, we learn walking, talking, actions, morals, EVERYTHING from being taught through others actions. Now of course, a toaster is just wires and metal, but when we start doing stuff what we're doing right now, we should really define it. I don't think humans will ever go extinct, because we're just too determined, and we're pretty good at endurance and adaptability. All in all, when it reaches the point of sentience, is it all that different from a human? Members of our race have been terrible people too, yet others have been amazing people. If we treat these things wrong, sure we might get a terminator, an AM, an ultron, but if we you know, be decent people, we'll be getting ones like the iron giant, and WALL-E; of course there COULD be a war if things get out of hand, but how many wars have we had just with ourselves? We barely can get along, we take drastic measures to protect ourselves, we are just as insatiable as anything else. So again, I ask what is the difference? Our blood is iron, our brains use electricity, chemistry determines our mood, the similarities are countless, so whats to say AI won't find beauty as we have? It might find none, just as some of us have, yet it might find peace as well. Right now is the time we shape it. If we continue to fear and alienate it, an alien it will become, and one that will use our fear. But if you understand it, acknowledge it, you will realize nothing has changed, your actions still have consequences, and your words have meanings. Don't mistake what I'm saying for reverence of AI, or that I'm telling you all we should gratefully accept it as our overlord, but to humanize it. To have compassion and understanding is not the same as enabling or accepting, letting your child do anything is still bad parenting, just as letting them do nothing is as well. We need balance, just with anything else in this world.
