Bernie Sanders is doing an awesome job of talking to Americans about our real problems, and the real issues facing us. He is America's greatest political leader right now. However, along with woes that these technologies will bring in the context of capitalism, I think that the democratic socialist left also needs to more strongly emphasize the potentially utopian benefits of automation and robotics for a post-capitalist, post-scarcity, post-labor society. "I am not a luddite" is not enough--people need inspiration, not just trepidation. Regardless of what they say, oligarchs like Elon Musk can never bring us a Star Trek future. The democratic socialist worker ownership plans that Bernie talked about can.
