Hinton continually fails to produce a coherent model of the brain and consciousness that can be calculated on a computer but concludes that the brain must be an analog type system. Notice the discomfort with anything beyond classical reality. We have a foregone conclusion about human ability from the vantage point of degraded navigation. AI has to scale to massive levels and still has not achieved AGI, perhaps most of Hinton’s confusion emerges from this flattened ontological assumptions which don’t appreciate a richer potential with the picture of topology and physics. Just a thought.
