The problem I have about the predictions showed in this video is doing approximations. This guy is pretty sure about exponential growth of AI capabilities, but why he is so sure ? If you could do simple approximation or prediction you could observe it in nature, but it does not happen at all:
- humidity growth: can grow to some point
- engine rev limit: similar
- predicted computational power growth of silicon chips described by Moore's law, reached it limit quite long time ago (heavily related to AI)
- price of gold and other assets: predictions does not work well at all
Just give me any example in nature you could approximate that simply. Even the speed of a physical object is not a simple approximation.
Why this time approximations and predictions will work ? I have no idea.
My point is AI will reach its plateau, but we don't know if this plateau is far below human AI or not ;) Anyway, this is good there are people who are concerned.
