If it's any comfort to someone reading this- if it's even possible for AI to exist then the chances we are all just part of some simulation become close to 100% This is not comforting on it's own, but it does mean life, in the grand sense, is meaningless. Which means you are free to give it whatever meaning you like. Believe in religion, don't believe- it doesn't matter. I like to imagine that this is all a simulation in which I'm an agent and the reason my life sucks is because I choose to play on hard mode. Which brings me comfort because it means that I might one day get to experience the other side even if I never accomplish anything in this life, but also I should still try my best because I wanted the challenge. All very self serving, but it's my own personal little religion that helps when things get rough like they so often tend to do in these AI doomer talks.
