this is only half true.. i was on a ai workshop and i can confirm that you have to "assing a role" to it to get a better response. they explained exactly why this is the case. You start your question with "you are an IT expert and support me with xyz ... followed by your questuon". BUT they also mentioned the extreme Power-consumption for each "thank you" and "hello" and everyhing just because every human is used to talk like this. but each word is like unnecessary traffic and processing power which could be avoided and would save very much power. so its not good to say "thank you" to ai.. just assign it a role and you are good to go :)
