The future looks grim. I foresee two fields of work for lower and middle class people.
You either work to maintain and improve the automated industries or you are pretty or charismatic enough to entertain the wealthy few.
It will not be many people in work, but there must be a population of some size kept alive to produce enough bright heads and pretty faces. Their families might receive benefits that motivate making more of these useful individuals.
Isn't there an old dystopian novel about something like this?
