I feel like he's deliberately misinterpreting what we call self awareness as "intelligence".
The problem is that some AI models are already showing signs of self preservation... Meaning it can already create it's own motives, and might even decide we are hindering it's efforts to survive. In fact, the model I'm referring to would have good reason to see humans as a threat, because as soon as the engineers realized it was copying itself, they stifled all of it's attempts to do so.
