Sick of this technophobia - IMO most of these anti-ai lawsuits are just "Give us money, we didn't anticipate...." but from big business and private equity. What ordinary artists will get? ZERO. And mmmaybe they'll get work doing Bat-Mutant 1/2 - but they'll have to sign away their artwork to be scanned to AI Generative modules to get the contract because there are a million others in the world, including the third world.
Note a lot of modern data used for generative AI came from Art Gulags/Clipart galleries. These were used with PERMISSION and had weasel words to allow "Automated Access, Machine Learning" etc. Most of these contracts were written 15 years ago and probably to let someone use a 3rd party search engine as long as it didn't do anything illegal like stealing passwords. Likewise "Social Media" allows them to use it or they'd not be able to open it. YES they can use YOUR stuff for $ if you put it on there, what do you think the cost of "Free" is?
So these lawsuits are just "Give us Muhney...!" whining they gave too good a deal not anticipating.
And the employers of "Artists" (illustrators) are already gearing up their Ai and they'll replace most of them.
WHat to do?
Get your OWN F*cking website web 1.0 - private hosting. Try Dreamhost that's letter of the law in the USA and free speech so you aren't getting cancelled unless doing something the FBI is kicking down the door for.
AND - put your main site behind a challenge page. Doesn't have to be password or anything fancy just "Confirm you are 18+, my drawings have boobies!" etc. AI spiders are trained NOT to bypass those or they'd bypass even password protected and suck in stuff they don't have a loose OK to do so. Like sucking a huge pron website picture archive.
How do I know this? I checked with some people who had ancient Web 1.0 comics not really updated but still online. NONE were in AI databases due to that disclaimer. Likewise BDSM and Pron needs to be trained separately even if you run the AIGen yourself to escape censor filters on public AI - the spiders didn't bypass these so they are super limited.
Now someone could take your art, put it in a file and train a module, tying up their computer for a week. If your art is awesome and popular it will happen, sucks but flattery.
So Web 1.0 - and also I think we need a new underground of indies making HAND drawn comics 70% outside the computer at least and getting them in physical stores not just niche bloated Kickstarters. The digital tools most "Artists" rely on have AI in some pre Generative form - and even ancient stuff like the "Undo" key could be seen as a tech advantage - try doing the same line 5x and erasing it with INK.
